Cheltenham Chiropractic Clinic is fully open and accepting new patients although we are usually booked up about 2 weeks ahead for initial consultations (New Patient appointments.)
Our registered Chiropractor Catherine Owers has been working without a receptionist since Covid – this means she may take longer than normal to return your call or email – please be patient, if you leave an answerphone message with a contact telephone number she will get back to you in a few hours. It is often quicker to send an email if you are looking for an appointment time, then Catherine can reply with available appointment options – [email protected] is the address to use.
As we now have no receptionist it will be our Chiropractor Catherine herself who meets you in reception, takes payment and arranges your next appointment – her admin skills are improving and she’s even worked out how to use the printer so everything is now running smoothly!
Please follow us on social media for all the latest Cheltenham Chiropractic Clinic updates:
Catherine has received four Covid vaccinations and is now working without a mask, Public Health England have allowed healthcare workers to stop wearing all PPE for face-to-face treatment since May 2022 (If you prefer her to wear a mask or full PPE for your appointment just ask – she will do whatever makes each patient feel comfortable.) It is now each patient’s choice whether or not they wear a mask to their appointment, with enhanced cleaning in between each and every patient our clinic is a very safe environment; Catherine hopes to see you soon!

Cheltenham Chiropractic Clinic will remain OPEN during the new national lockdown, here is an important announcement from the British Chiropractic Association (BCA):
Chiropractic services remain open across the UK.
It is important that chiropractors can continue to offer their services to their patients for several reasons. These include:
Patient care, particularly when a patient is in pain and needs to seek a consultation.
Offering a chiropractic service to key/essential workers, including those in the NHS.
Reducing the musculoskeletal care burden on the NHS, particularly if patients are finding it hard to access these services due to the pandemic.
Patient and public information: COVID-19
BCA position on COVID-19
We know that patients and the public want to know more about how chiropractors are responding to patient need during COVID-19.
BCA advice on face-to-face consultations
5th January 2021
The British Chiropractic Association (BCA) represents the majority of chiropractors in the UK and has at its core the values which have been its ethos for 95 years. These include the placing of patient care and safety above all other considerations. Our chiropractors also have a duty of care to their staff and associates and to the wider community, most particularly in this period of national crisis.
Latest COVID-19 restrictions across the UK (4th January 2021)
We have reviewed the regulations announced this evening and chiropractic services can remain open in all four UK countries.
In addition to the fact that it is legally permissible, it is important that chiropractors can continue to offer their services to their patients for several reasons.
We have advised our members to:
Act with caution – the latest lockdown restrictions are part of a national effort to reduce COVID-19 infections significantly and chiropractors and their patients must play their part.
Update their risk assessments (including on the use of PPE) in light of the most recent Government announcements.
Ensure that their clinics are as safe as they can be.
Ensure that home visits (if they choose to carry these out) are subject to the most stringent risk assessments.
Consider the use of telehealth/virtual consultations as a first step to decide whether a patient needs to be seen face-to-face.
Consider the use of telehealth as an alternative to face-to-face consultations.
Consider seeing those who present with urgent symptoms only.
Consider the need to minimise travel, particularly across national UK borders.
It is for the chiropractor to make these professional/clinical judgements in consultation with their patient.
Patients should also be aware that:
Gyms (where they are a part of the clinic facility) can only be used if the patient is under active supervision for a treatment need.
Other therapists in a clinic should have checked with their own professional bodies for advice on the conditions under which they should continue to practise.
We have reiterated to our members the importance of referencing local restrictions when decision-making, including keeping up to date with advice from the local Director of Public Health.

Cheltenham Chiropractic Clinic will remain OPEN now that Gloucestershire has moved into tier 4.
Chiropractic is a government regulated healthcare profession and we are classed as essential, attending a Chiropractic appointment is a valid “medical reason” for going out in a tier 4 area.
Treating musculoskeletal injuries in our clinic takes the pressure off NHS services and the government are encouraging everyone to keep accessing their routine medical care. We are here for you!
We will continue to provide a safe environment following strict infection control guidelines from our professional association, regulators and Public Health England as we have been since July.
Keep an eye on our social media accounts to stay up to date (see links below)

Here is confirmation from www.gov.uk that the draft legislation published on Tuesday allows medical clinics (and Chiropractors are specifically named) to stay open during the upcoming lockdown, see no.47:
From November 6th until November 15th our Chiropractor Catherine was supposed to be going on holiday to this beautiful house in Cornwall…..
Although she now can’t travel Catherine will still be having that week off work as, quite frankly – she needs a rest!
Mandy our receptionist will be holding the fort and manning the phones/email – her office hours will be: Monday and Tuesday 2-6pm and Thursday and Friday 9am-1pm. You will be able to talk to her directly if you ring during these times but please DO leave a message at any other time and she will get back to you as soon as she can – the same applies to email.
Stay safe everyone.

We can’t wait to catch up with all our lovely patients when we reopen next week! It’s been a long old lockdown and our registered Chiropractor Catherine Owers has really missed chatting with her patients and hearing all their news – there’s going to be a lot to catch up on!
We are offering face-to-face treatments starting from Monday 6th July – we will be spacing out appointment times so there is no danger of patients crossing over and we are leaving lots of extra time for cleaning and PPE change over. This means that we can’t fit as many people in as normal and to minimise contamination risk we will have no receptionist cover for the first couple of months so please bear with us if we take a little longer to answer the phone or reply to your email.
If you would like to book an appointment please send a message to [email protected] or ring 01242 513459.

Cheltenham Chiropractic Clinic is reopening on July 6th
Here is an important clinic update from Catherine Owers, our Clinic Director and Government Registered Chiropractor:
“I am working very hard behind the scenes to make Cheltenham Chiropractic Clinic as safe as possible for our patients and staff once we reopen for face-to-face treatments. I want to be absolutely confident that I have done everything in my power to get the clinic Covid secure and this includes sourcing enough protective clothing and equipment to keep us all safe. Unfortunately some items of PPE are proving very difficult to get hold of I have therefore made the decision to delay re-opening for face-to-face treatments until Monday July 6th – this will be for all treatments however, not just urgent cases, so if you are feeling in need of a check-up after the rigours of lockdown please get in touch. I am very sorry not to be opening sooner but I hope you will all understand that I have to be totally confident with my safety preparations, I want to get this right and not rush re-opening. If you are really struggling in the meantime I am still available for telephone and e-mail consultations and I will do my very best to help you remotely – please email [email protected] or ring 01242 513459 for help and advice or further information.
We are well on the way to re-organising the clinic rooms with a protective reception screen, hand sanitiser stations, antimicrobial vinyl wipe-clean covers on the treatment benches and chairs, Covid-secure signage and information posters plus removing any multi-use items such as magazines or leaflets. Our cleaning regime will be intensive with a full wipe-down of all multi-contact surfaces (door-handles, treatment bench, chairs, reception desk, surfaces etc.) with anti-viral disinfectant between EVERY patient – plus a gap of 15 minutes to air the rooms fully as recommended by Public Health England. We will be sending out a detailed information sheet to every patient prior to their appointment detailing the new clinic protocols and what to expect when they arrive, we will also be taking a lot of our case history notes over the phone to minimise physical time spent in the clinic room. I will be wearing full PPE (face shield, face mask, single use plastic gloves and apron) for every treatment – please don’t be scared, although I look like a spacewoman I’m still the same person underneath and will appreciate any funny stories, bad jokes or interesting facts as per usual!
If you would like to book an appointment, ask for more information or just have a chat please send an e-mail to [email protected] or ring 01242 513459 (Please leave a message with a contact telephone number if there is no answer.) I’m really looking forward to catching up with you all, stay safe and I hope to see you soon!”
Please get in contact if you have any questions, keep an eye on social media (see links below) and the NEWS section of this website for further updates.

Increasing numbers of school children are reporting spinal pain in clinical practice. Sometimes this can go unnoticed or may be overlooked until it is too late. One of the major causes of back pain in younger age groups is carrying excessive loads to and from school in an ill-fitted or inappropriate school backpack. Recent research has shown a relationship between school bag loads, posture problems and spinal pain.
Choosing an appropriate school bag, having it fitted correctly and wearing it properly is extremely important to ensure healthy development of your child’s spine. A poorly fitted, inappropriately worn or excessively heavy school bag can cause a number of health issues for your child – potentially leading to problems later in life. Any of these issues, particularly when combined with over 12 years of schooling, can lead to such health and spinal problems as scoliosis, kyphosis, neck pain, headaches, shoulder pain, lower back pain and poor posture.
Posture problems and spinal pain in children and adolescents have the potential to lead to permanent spinal damage in later years. However, many of these issues can be prevented by following some simple steps when choosing, and wearing, a school bag.
Choosing a School Bag
When choosing a school bag the following tips and design features should be considered:
Opt for a backpack with two even straps which allow the weight of the load to be distributed evenly over the body. Bags with only one strap can cause injury to the shoulder, back and neck from uneven load distribution.
The centre of mass of the bag should be at waist height.
Choose a bag that fits your child and is appropriate to their body size. It should rest comfortably against their back. Avoid bags that are wider than your child.
The bag should have adjustable buckles or straps to lower or lift the pack into the appropriate position.
Choose a backpack with a moulded frame and an adjustable waist belt, so that the weight of the backpack can rest on your child’s pelvis instead of their shoulders and spine.
The waist belt will also help keep the bag close to the body and in place when moving around.
All straps should ideally be padded and wide to help distribute the weight of the bag more evenly and over a larger area. This should include both the shoulder straps and the waist belt.
The bag should also be padded where it touches the back.
